TAG stands for a “tight-aggressive”. It is a playing style that some players use as their overall strategy. TAG players will only enter the game when they have a very strong hand. These players are also only going to bet strong during the later betting rounds.
These players are very strong and intelligent. They are not your regular poker99 online players. They play hard. Most of the players who win the majority of hands are TAG players. They have also earned the nickname of “king of all players”.
What Is A Tag Strategy?
Not every player is going to reach this level of poker playing. Some of you might just end up being regular players, and that is okay. TAG players work with a specific goal in mind.
They want to be the best of the best (if that helps you to understand them better).
Some people ask whether poker players should aspire to this level or not. It depends on your playing style (I guess). Those who have a laid-back style of betting are not going to want to try the TAG Style.
Everyone comfortable with learning the TAG style can learn. However, some players find out, as they learn, that it is not for them.
One reason why beginners should stay away from using the TAG style until they are ready is due to the aggressive style of the pros. TAG style players are very aggressive (or at least they should be if the learn properly). They will eat a beginner for breakfast and not think twice.
TAG players can make money off of low stakes games too. The reason is due to playing with novice players. Beginners have not yet learned the ropes. TAG players love exposing the weak spots and taking their money.
That is the overall idea, but, once again, beginners should not attempt it until they have gained enough experience.
Two Ways To Beat A TAG Player?
Once you learn how to play this style, you can then turn it around on the TAG person. How do you think TAG players beat each other? They use their tactics against them.
1) One way to do that is to steal their blinds. The idea is to use a TAG player on your left to make your point. TAG players on the left are going to give up their blinds more easily.
Rule one with a TAG is to not play a pot out of its position. TAGs who sit in the bling (the left side) are in a poor position to do anything. They are not going to bother defending themselves. They will fold 80% of the time.
2) A second way is to work with the continuation bets. TAGs learn to keep betting regardless of the position. You can challenge that once you learn how to do it.
